About Malahide Castle
Malahide Castle as the name suggests is a castle located in Dublin, Ireland. It is just nine miles away from central Dublin situated in Malahide village. It spread in an area of 260 acres. It was constructed in the 12th century and was inhabited by the Talbot family for about 791 years. The place is now a center of tourist attraction due to its history and the Talbot Botanic Gardens which is a walled garden located behind the castle. It was home to Tara's Palace Museum of Childhood until 2011. You can easily arrive at the place with the bus route numbers 42, 102, and 142 and also with a train leaving the train at Malahide Railway station.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Malahide Castle
- The castle is a witness to several horrific fits of rage. One of which was on July 1, 1690, in which thirteen members of the Talbot family were killed.
- There are five ghosts that haunt this castle. One of which is of Lord Galtrim. The story was that Walter Hussey, Lord Galtrim who was in love with Miss Maud Plunkett, daughter of the Baron of Killen. Some people say that Galtrim was killed on his way to the wedding while others say that he was married to Plunkett after which he was killed by a rival. Whatever was the story, but it is said that Maud was married to Galtrim's rival shortly after his said. His ghost still roams in the halls and points to the wounds in his side.

- Another ghost is of Lord Chief Justice who was the third husband of Maud. According to the tales, his relation with Maud was not good and she was said to be abusive with her husband. It is said that Lord Chief Justice's ghost wanders downward the halls at Malahide.
- The third ghost in the castle is of Miles Corbett who lived in the castle when Charles I was overthrown. When the situation was changed Charles II ordered all the Regicides including Miles Corbett to be executed. He went to Netherland upon hearing this. He was caught after two years and was executed in the castle. His ghost was seen on his death anniversary running through the halls. Another incident for his sight when a full suit of armor fell to broke into four pieces.
- The fourth ghost is of a dwarf named Puck. He was a watchman in one of the towers at the time of the reign of Henry VIII. Puck fell in love with Lady Elenora Fitzgerald. Some people say Puck committed suicide by hanging as he failed in his sentry duties and while others says that he hung himself as he was rejected of misery. Some legends also say that he was killed as Talbots was not agreed with the match.
The last but not least is of a lady in a white dress whose portrait hung in the Great Hall. It is still not known that he took this painting in the castle. Some people say that the young lady steps out of the paintings occasionally and roam all over the hall.
