Crac des Chevaliers is a castle located in Syria. The castle was constructed in 1031 and was rebuild up to 1170 after it was damaged by an earthquake. It was first occupied by Kurdish troops and in 1142 it was given to the order of the Knights Hospitaller. First castle was built by Shibl al-Dawla Nasr and second times by Knights Hospitaller. It is located on a 650 meter high hill at the east of Tartus, Syria. It is about 40 kilometers away from the city of Homs very near to the border of Lebanon. It is open for public visit from Wednesday to Monday between 8:30 am to 6:00 pm in summers while the winter timings are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
