About Reichstag Building
Reichstag Building is a historic building situated in Berlin city of Germany. The construction of the building started in June 1884 under the guidance of architect Paul Wallot. It was completed in 1894 as the house of the Imperial Diet of Germany. It was used for the purpose until 1933. It is about 47m long and covers a floor area of 61,166 m². The building is currently occupied by Bunderstag. The parliament does not return to the building after the 1933 fire.

  • The building was set to fire in the year 1933. Nazi claimed that It was a communist attack. However, some of historians believe it was planned and ordered by the Nazis to disguise others. The building caught fire after 9:00 p.m. on 27 February 1933 and the fire was put out by 11:30. Walter Gempp who was head of the fire department at that time was dismissed for presenting evidence that proves that the fire was an act of Nazi. He also said that there was a delay in notifying the fire brigade. He was imprisoned and killed in prison in May 1939.
