About Chetwode Building
Chetwode Hall is a beautiful building located in Indian Military Academy. It is situated on NH-72, about seven kilometers away from Dehradun Railway station. As IMA is known for producing brave army officers since its establishment in 1932. Brigadier L.P. Collins was the first commandant of Academy with 40 Cadets as the first batch. Special permission is required to enter the campus, however, it remains open for the general public on the graduation day of the cadets. There is no entry fee to enter the premises.

Chetwode Hall is a popular place situated in the well known Indian Military Academy of Dehradun. You can reach the place using any of the suitable means of transport.
Bus
Buses going to Prem Nagar can drop you at the gate of Indian Military Academy. The hall is located at a walking distance from the gate.
Auto
A personal auto or a shared based auto (called Vikram locally) is also a suitable to reach the Indian Military Academy. If you are at ISBT Dehradun then you have to take a vikram for clock tower, Dehradun and after walking a small distance, you will get another vikram for the Academy.
Personal Vehicle
As IMA is located just seven kilometers from Dehradun Railway station, a small drive can take you to the destination.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Chetwode Building
- The hall was named after Field Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode who was the Commander-in-Chief of India at the time Indian Military Academy was founded.
- The Academy owns a large campus area which is spread in over 1400 acres. It has computer labs, lecture halls, a library with over one lakh books and an auditorium with a seating capacity of two thousand people. It also has a war memorial, museum, shooting demonstration room as well as 18-holes Golf course.
- High security arrangements are done at the time of Pass-out-parade when parents and relatives of cadets are invited to witness to honor the most pride moments of gallantry soldiers of Indian Military.
- Watching out the last parade and announcement of awards like Sword of Honor is a proud moment not only for the cadets but also for the other people attending the parade.
