About Howrah Bridge
Howrah Bridge is an admirable landmark of British architecture in India. It is a rigid structural bridge over Hooghly river situated in West Bengal of India. It’s construction was started in 1936 while it was completed in 1942. Braithwaite, Burn & Jessop Construction Company was assigned the project. It is about 705 meters long while is 71 feet wide at some places and 15 feet at other. It is situated at a height of 82 meters. It is on the sixth rank among the longest bridge of its type all over the world.

Tram

- It was named Rabindra Setu in 1965, though it is still popular as Howrah Bridge.

- Tata Steel made it so strong 26500 tons of steel was used while making it which includes 23000 tons of Tiscrom (high-tensile alloy steel) supplied by Tata Steel.
- The bridge served as a site for filming various films including Love Aaj Kal, Gunday, Tamil film Aadhavan and many more.

- Though it is a masterpiece, very few of us know about the scary facts about the bridge. Many people commit suicide by jumping from the bridge. It is believed that the ghats near the bridge are haunted by the spirits of these people, as their death was unnatural.
- Many wrestlers who practice at these ghats at around three in the morning saw hands above the water surface asking for help. If anyone tries to help the drowning person, they drown themselves. No one knows whether the hands were of spirits or real people.

- Many people claim that they have seen a lady in a white saree crying and calling out their names. It is suggested not to look back while visiting this place, even if the person is calling your name.
