South beach or soBE as the residents call it, is a beach community in Florida, Miami. It sits east of Miami Beach's main city area, between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. It is a much sought after tourist attraction for its nightlife, lively atmosphere and various shopping spots and restaurants.
Some Lesser Known Facts About South Beach
- The beach was originally farmland bought by 2 men, namely, Henry and Charles Lum in the year 1870. The land ran about 165 acres, bought for the purpose of coconut farming.

- Today, it remains a major entertainment area and hosts numerous festivals and events. Some of these include the Winter Music Conference (March), White Party (spring), Urban Beach Week (Memorial Day weekend), Miami Marathon (January), Miami International Film Festival (March), Miami Fashion Week (March), Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami (July), Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival (February), etc.

- Other attractions nearby include the Bass Museum, Miami Holocaust Museum, Jewish Museum of Florida, and the Wolfsonian-FIU and World Erotic Art Museum, which claims that it holds "the largest collection of erotic art in America." There is also an abundance of performing arts venues like the SoBe Institute of the Arts, New World Center, New World Symphony Orchestra, Miami City Ballet, Jackie Gleason Theater, Lincoln Theatre, and the Colony Theater.
