The Pacific Beach is joined by La Jolla to the north, Mission Beach, and Mission Bay to the south. It is San Diego's most popular neighborhoods, dubbed as PB by the locals, the neighborhood offers lively nightlife scenes, with a great variety of bars, eateries, and clothing stores.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Pacific Beach
- One can spot young crowds sunbathing, playing beach sports, and bar hopping near the Crystal Pier locality. There are numerous shops, bars, hotels, and restaurants along the boardwalk, and it is generally crowded with pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers, skateboarders, and shoppers.
- The east-west streets are mostly named after precious stones. For example Diamond, Emerald, Felspar, Garnet, Opal, turquoise, etc.
- The castle Pier was built in the year 1927. It is a historic landmark and a privately-owned pier, open to the public during the hours of the day. One can spend the time whale-watching, catching a sunset, or go fishing at the far end of the pier, as you don?t need a fishing license here.
- A 3.2-mile-long boardwalk begins at Law Street in North Pacific Beach and runs parallel to the shoreline to the South Mission Beach. This is called the Ocean walk. You can ride your rented beach cruiser from one end to the other, or take a stroll.
- The San Diego Surf School is located on Cass Street a few blocks from the beach. There are lessons and camps on-site as well. For kids and adults alike, one can learn how to surf on calm waters and waves.
- The "Baked bear", located somewhere on Mission Boulevard is a popular spot for satisfying one's sweet tooth. With a slight detour, one will come up to this dessert shop. Many visitors are encouraged to visit the ice-cream sandwich shop, especially families with kids.
- To relax and rest, one can visit the Catamaran Spa. It is situated at the Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa on Sail Bay in Pacific Beach. It also conducts open-air yoga classes from time to time.
