About Mission Beach
The Mission beach is one of the most popular beaches south of the Pacific Beach Drive. It is a community built on a sandbar between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. It is usually filled with crowds engaged in sunbathing, surfing, bicycling, skateboarding, Frisbee tossing, and other outdoor activities. Other attractions nearby include the Belmont Park and Ocean Front Walk.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Mission Beach
- The Belmont Park was originally built as the Mission Beach Amusement Center by John D. Spreckels in the year 1925. The intention was to bump up the real estate sales and as a way of promoting his electric railway. The park features the original wooden Giant Dipper Roller Coaster as well as newer rides such as the FlowRider at Wave House, Vertical Plunge, Krazy Kars, etc.

- The over-sized boardwalk that lines the beach is perfect for riding your beach cruiser, roller skates, or just walking. The more fun and popular activities among its visitors are stand-up paddleboarding, wake surfing, and kite surfing.

- One can spend hours indulging in the six carnival-style games spread across the Belmont Park Midway. Some of these include balloon busting, ringing the high striker bell, tossing balls into angled tubs, and others. The better your skills, the bigger your prize.

- For a full family trip, the Arcade at Belmont Park is another fun venue to stop by. It features more than 70 games like Racing, ticket, and sports games, plus claw machines and virtual shooters! It?s usually crowded with the young while parents may participate in classics like Skee ball.

- The original dipper roller coaster had been added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1978. Eight years later it was designated a National Historic Landmark! The beloved ride would be saved by the efforts of the people and would continue running after all these years.

- Another famous site in the vicinity is Sea World, in Mission Bay. Built in the year 1964, it quickly became the main attraction of the area. Even today, thousands of county residents work there and about as many California students go on field trips there each year. But recently, there has been much debate about the code of ethics at the site. Claims have been made that SeaWorld doesn?t do enough to protect its trainers and the tanks that house its killer whales and other animals can make them hyper-aggressive and shorten their lives. Nevertheless, it remains a much-visited site during these discussions.

- The location of the beach next to other attractions is another factor that keeps it busy. One can hop from Mission Beach to Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and Mission bay just the same.
