About Beechworth Lunatic Asylum
Beechworth Asylum is a now-closed mental hospital in Beechworth, Australia. It was opened in 1867 and closed in 1995. It was one of the three big hospitals in Victoria at the time it was in operation. Asylum has made ha-ha walls around the patient courtyards just like Kew Asylum. These walls look low from the outside while is deeper from inside. At the time, it was used as Asylum it had about 106 hectares of farmland having kitchen gardens, stable, piggery, barn, and other things to make the hospital self-sufficient. Now it has about 11 hectares of gardens which is open for the public for a full day.
