The airport started operation in March 2008. It serves as a hub for several airlines like Spicejet, TruJet, IndiGo, and Quikjet Cargo. It is in the sixth rank among the busiest airports in India in terms of passenger traffic. Aviation training is also provided by the airport. It also features a solar power plant and a fuel farm. It covers an area of more than five thousand acres.
